The Level 3 Exercise for Older Adults personal training qualification is a great addition to the Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing or the Level 3 Personal Trainer. Dates and Duration
The Level 3 Exercise for Older Adults is a distance learning course. The hours of study will total approximately 60. Some candidates take a couple of weeks to complete and some take a couple of months. Candidates can choose to take up to one year to complete the course.
Entry Requirement
Learners must hold either a:
- Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (QCF) (Gym, ETM or Aqua) or
- Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training (QCF) or
- Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral (QCF) or
- Level 3 Diploma in Teaching Yoga (QCF) or
- Level 3 Diploma in Instructing Pilates Matwork (QCF).
Level 3 Exercise for Older Adults Course Format
Full distance learning format
- Full home study course.
- 6-week client case study.
Location (for face-to-face days, if applicable)
There is no face-to-face attendance required for this course.
Level 3 Exercise for Older Adults Syllabus and Assessments’ Format
This qualifications comprises of 2 mandatory units:
- Physical activity and health considerations for the older adult – Worksheet.
- Designing and adapting exercise programmes for the older adult – Assignment.
Aim and Objectives
Aim:
To provide learners with the knowledge and skills to:
- design and adapt programmes to meet the needs of older adults.
Objectives:
To provide learners with the knowledge to:
- understand the effects of ageing on the UK population.
- understand the physiological and biomechanical changes associated with ageing and their implications for physical activity.
- understand the medical conditions commonly associated with old age and their implications for physical activity.
- understand the key considerations for older adults participating in physical activity.
- understand the communication skills required to engage with older adults.
- understand the principles of collecting information to plan a physical activity programme for the older adult.
- understand how to identify goals with older adults.
- understand how to plan a physical activity programme for the older adult.
- understand the teaching and instructing skills required when working with older adults.
- be able to plan a physical activity programme for the older adult.
- understand how to adapt exercise to meet the needs of older adults.

- Active IQ Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training (QCF)

- Active IQ Level 4 Certificate in Exercise for the Management of Low Back Pain (QCF)
- Active IQ Level 4 Certificate in Exercise and Nutritional Interventions for Obesity and Diabetes (QCF).
