Level 4 Certificate In Physical Activity and Weight Management for Diabetic Clients – for Level 2 Instructors and Level 3 Personal Trainers who also have the Level 3 Exercise Referral Diploma.
It focuses on how to manage diabetes using exercise and nutritional strategies. It evaluates the myths and truths surrounding diabetes management leading to a series of scientifically supported answers to tackle this condition and blood glucose management whilst restoring health and vitality.
Candidates who only have the Level 3 Personal Trainer and do not currently have the Level 3 Exercise Referral Diploma can take the Level 3 Exercise Referral Diploma and the Level 4 Certificate In Physical Activity and Weight Management for Diabetic Clients (QCF) qualification together as a combined, reduced price package – please ask us for details.

Level 4 Diabetic Clients – Dates and Duration
This is a pure distance learning course as there is no face-to-face assessments to complete. The hours of study will total approximately 60. Some candidates take a couple of weeks to complete and some take a couple of months. Candidates can choose to take up to one year to complete the course.
Entry Requirement
Learners must hold a:
Level 3 Personal Training Diploma
AND
Level 3 Diploma In Exercise Referral Clients.
Course Format
Level 4 Diabetic Clients – Distance Learning
- Home study.
- Live online guided learning (8 hours).
- The total guided learning hours are 127 so you will be involved in guided learning for between 8 to 16 hours per week depending on the chosen duration of your course (ie between 6 weeks and 12 weeks).
Location (for face-to-face days, if applicable)
There is no face-to-face attendance required for this course.
Level 4 Diabetic Clients Syllabus and Assessments’ Format
The course is composed of units which cover a variety of topics including:
- Current statistics, prevalence and trends in diabetes – Worksheet.
- Current national strategies for diabetes – Worksheet.
- Causation and pathophysiology of diabetes – Worksheet.
- The role of diet and activity in diabetes management – Worksheet.
- Corrective dietary guidelines and exercise advice – Worksheet.
Aim and Objectives
Aims:
- To train learners to a professionally competent level, enabling them to prescribe, plan, conduct and review programmes to address the needs of patients/clients with diabetes.
- To train learners to a professionally competent level, enabling them to implement a corrective diet to aid in the management of diabetes.
Objectives:
- To develop an understanding of the prevalence and strategies for the management of diabetes.
- To be able to determine obesity related health risk.
- To develop a specific and in depth understanding of the causes and pathophysiology of diabetes.
- To apply appropriate training approaches to plan and design exercise programmes for client’s diabetes.
- To develop an understanding of medications, psychological/sociological factors and co-morbidities that influence an individual’s ability to exercise safely and effectively.
- To be able to implement a corrective diet in the management of diabetes.
- understand how to adapt exercise to meet the needs of the diabetic client.
