The Level 4 Certificate In Physical Activity and Weight Management for Obese and Diabetic Clients (QCF) is for already qualified Level 3 Exercise Referral qualified personal trainers. It evaluates the myths and truths surrounding obesity management leading to a series of scientifically supported answers to tackle bulging waistlines and blood glucose management whilst restoring health and vitality.  


Candidates who only have the Level 3 Personal Trainer and do not currently have the Level 3 Exercise Referral Diploma can take the Level 3 Exercise Referral Diploma and the Level 4 Certificate In Physical Activity and Weight Management for Obese and Diabetic Clients (QCF) qualification together as a combined course - please ask us for details.

This Level 4 Certificate qualification is will allow registration with REPs as a Level 4 Specialist in the category of Obesity and Diabetes. This course takes approximately 8 weeks to complete but can be extended to up to one year if preferred. Blended and distance learning formats are available.

Course Content

The course is composed of 3 units which cover a variety of topics including:

    • Current statistics, prevalence and trends in obesity and diabetes
    • Current national strategies for each condition
    • Causation and pathophysiology of obesity and diabetes
    • The role of diet and activity in obesity management
    • Corrective dietary guidelines and exercise advice

Course Format and Duration 

Blended Learning 
- Home study
- Live online guided learning (8 hours)
- The total guided learning hours are 127 so you will be involved in guided learning for between 8 to 16 hours per week depending on the chosen duration of your course (ie between 6 weeks and 12 weeks).

Distance Learning 

- Home study
- Live online guided learning (8 hours)
- The total guided learning hours are 127 so you will be involved in guided learning for between 8 to 16 hours per week depending on the chosen duration of your course (ie between 6 weeks and 12 weeks).

Aims and Objectives

Aims:

• To train learners to a professionally competent level, enabling them to prescribe, plan, conduct and review programmes to address the needs of patients/clients with obesity and diabetes
• To train learners to a professionally competent level, enabling them to implement a corrective diet to aid in the management of obesity and diabetes

Objectives:

• To develop an understanding of the prevalence and strategies for the management of obesity and diabetes
• To be able to determine obesity related health risk
• To develop a specific and in depth understanding of the causes and pathophysiology of obesity and diabetes
• To apply appropriate training approaches to plan and design exercise programmes for client’s obesity and or diabetes.
• To develop an understanding of medications, psychological/sociological factors and co-morbidities that influence an individual’s ability to exercise safely and effectively
• To be able to implement a corrective diet in the management of obesity and diabetes

Location of Assessments

There are no face-to-face practical or theory assessments. 

Entry Requirements

You will need a Level 3 Personal Trainer and the Level 3 Exercise Referral qualification to attend the course. Students must be at least 16 years old with a reasonable level of fitness as well as reading, writing and numeracy skills.

Assessment

The qualification is assessed a written case study and worksheets.
