First Aid Qualifications

HFI Training LTD is recognised by the fitness industry as a leader in the delivery of first aid training. Our Emergency First Aid at Work Qualification days (1-day)  are held at least once a month in London and during the summer throughou the UK. We also hold regular full 3-day First Aid at Work Qualifications which are appropriate for some professionals or employees. If you are already First Aid at Work qualified you just need a 2-day refresher course to renew your certificate.  Our courses are specifically designed for trainee fitness instructor, qualified fitness instructors and personal trainers. Being specifically for personal trainers, our first aid days give participants the opportunity to network with other trainees and trainers. The courses are a combination of theory and practical sessions that are designed to develop ability and, most importantly, practical confidence within the fitness environment. Certificates are issued on the day.

We cater for all industries requiring first aid qualifications as well, just get in touch and we can arrange a tailored course for your team or you can enroll team members on any of our scheduled courses.

A First aid qualification is required of all personal trainers. First aid qualifications can be a bit confusing because there are many different types. This is mainly due to different industries requiring different levels of qualification. The fitness industry requires personal trainers to hold the 1-day Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification. Some self-employed trainers choose, and fitness managers are required to have the 3-day First Aid at Work (FAW) qualification. The reason personal trainers might choose the full FAW would be due to a higher risk training environment such as outdoor training. If you are a trainer and unsure about what level of risk your practice entails then you can refer to the HFI risk assessment manual which is sold as part of the HFI Personal Training Business PackBoth the EFAW and FAW last for 3 years. To renew after the 3 years, the FAW is a 2-day refresher course. The EFAW is renewed by repeating the 1-day course. Be sure to keep your first aid up to date, as if you do not your fitness qualifications and public liability insurance are not valid.

We use the very best instructors, all of whom have a wealth of experience in their subject knowledge, come from an operational first aid background and also have personal training or sporting backgrounds. Our first aid training is fully approved by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE). We can also come to your site and
train a group of staff at very competitive prices. Alternatively we can train your own trainers and assessors in order to keep this essential training in-house.

At HFI we have health and safety specialists working with us to keep us up-to-date of new developments in this area. Health and safety (risk assessment) is often overlooked by personal trainers, as they get caught up in setting up their business.

Trainers can purchase the ‘Personal Trainer’s Health and Safety Procedures Manual’ from HFI for their business. This manual includes all the templates you need to ensure that your business’ health and safety is taken care of from the outset.

Trainers can also purchase the full HFI’s Personal Training Business Pack which includes a free ‘Personal Trainer’s Health and Safety Procedures Manual worth £39.99.

Health and Safety Requirements

Whether you are a large company fitness employer, a small personal training business with one or two employees, or an individual personal trainer, you must put together a health and safety policy. Large businesses will have a specific health and safety officer who coordinates this area and ensures the business is complying with the law where its employees and its members (clients) are concerned. Self-employed personal trainers often need a little assistance with health and safety for their business.

Health and Safety Policies and Procedures including risk assessments are always a worry for trainers. We have put together an all-inclusive ready-to-go ‘Personal Trainer’s Health and Safety Procedures Manual’ for you to use in order to fulfill your health and safety requirements.

The H&S Manual includes:

  • Health and Safety legislation as it relates to personal training business,

  • Templates with guidance notes on how to complete

  • Risk assessments

  • Normal operating procedures

  • Emergency action plans

  • Accident book

HFI can advise you about this with their Personal Training Business Complete Business Pack (Set Up, Success and Safety Pack)
