Level 1 Award in Active, Healthy Living
Introduction
A ‘life skills’ qualification at Level 1 on the National Qualifications Framework. Candidates will learn the links between activity and better health, and how to analyse their lifestyle, put together a strategy to improve nutritional habits, and take up opportunities
of becoming more active in their daily life.
This is an online course which will give a person thinking about entering the industry a good insight into the nature of the business. It will give you an initial qualification to start to look at becoming a trainee fitness instructor with an employer. This can lead to the level 2 qualification in gym instructing with HFI following our the level 2 certificate or our work-based level 2 NVQ in exercise and fitness instruction.
Students who select online learning are able to work at their own pace and at a time that suits them all they need is internet access.
Course tutors are able to monitor student progress online and give support by telephone or email.
When candidates have taken this online course and have got a taste for the health fitness industry they can gain employment in a health, fitness or leisure environment. They often then go on to take the Level 2 Gym Instructor so they can gain employment with a gym, health club or leisure centre in this role.
Entry requirements
This qualification is open to all, no previous experience is required
A basic level of numeracy and literacy is required.

Unit 1 – The Body and How it Works (J/103/1504)
Unit 2 – How to Adopt an Active, Healthy Lifestyle (L/103/1505).
Assessment
Internally assessed:
Personal Activity Log (PAL) which contains a complete personal health and lifestyle profile, personal dietary analysis, strategy for improvement and a programme of exercise to improve own levels of health and fitness.
Externally assessed:
A 60 minute theory paper consisting of thirty multiple choice questions.
