Qualification
INTRODUCTION
The Active IQ Certificate in Sport and Active Leisure Management is at Level 3 on the Qualifications and Credit Framework.
Guided learning hours: 200-205 Notional learning hours: Minimum 260 Credit: 27
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
TARGET LEARNERS:
• Adults (aged 16+) wishing to pursue a career in the Active Leisure Industry as a manager or
supervisor
• Sport and Active Leisure organisations with a need to train their staff to an agreed nationally
recognised standard with a particular desire to improve both the current industry knowledge of staff
and the service they are able to offer their customers.
• Individuals currently undertaking the supervisory role in a health club or leisure centre environment
who would like to have their knowledge and experience recognised by a formal qualification.
• Individuals who are aspiring to supervisory management roles in sport and active leisure facilities
that need to extend their knowledge and develop the relevant skills.
• Please note that 16 to 18 year-olds may need to be supervised in the workplace, once they have
achieved the qualification
AIM:
This qualification is designed to provide learners with the knowledge and skills required to deal with the
performance of other staff, the well-being and safety of customers, as well as the day-to day operation of
a sport and recreation facility.
PROGRESSION:
• This qualification provides progression to NVQ Level 3 in Leisure Management for learners who
wish to develop and demonstrate occupational competence in the work place
• Learners may also broaden their knowledge and skills by progressing to other Active IQ programmes

QUALIFICATION STRUCTURE AND UNIT CONTENT
This qualification comprises of 7 mandatory units, 22 credits and a number of optional units worth a
minimum of 4 credits

Unit 3 Recruitment and Development of Colleagues
Unit 4 Principles of Leadership
Unit 5 Health, Safety and Security in Sport and Active Leisure
Unit 6 Supporting Equality and Diversity in Sport and Active Leisure
Unit 7 Customer Service in Sport and Active Leisure
Optional units
Unit 8 Understanding the Sales Process
Unit 9 Understanding the Customer Purchasing Process
Unit 10 Understanding Budgeting and Finance
Unit 11 Improving Customer Service
Unit 12 Marketing and Promoting Services
Unit 13 Principles and Practice of Swimming Pool Water Testing
Unit 14 Principles of Swimming Pool Plant Operations
Unit 15 Swimming Pool Plant Operations
Unit 16 Management of Swimming Pool Water Quality
Either units 13 and 14 must be taken together or units 13, 14, 15 and 16 should all be taken.
Successful achievement of a minimum of 26 credits must be achieved for the full qualification.
