CIMSPA Registration

Are you eligible for CIMSPA health & fitness practitioner registration with your current qualifications?

CIMSPA Direct and Non-direct Entry Qualifications

If you have qualifications other than the "direct entry qualifications" below please get in touch and we can tell you what additional units you will need to complete to becomes REPs registered as a Level 3 PT and then we can arrange for you to be tested* with us in these units. *Depending on your experience and a mentor being available to you, you may be eligable to take these tests without having to purchase "assisted learning" as well. Please contact us for details

Direct Entry Qualifications (must be from one of the main Awarding Bodies in the UK eg Active IQ) and it must be less that 5 years old:

Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing PLUS Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training 

Level 3 Diploma in Fitness Instructing and in Personal Training 

 

Older than 5 years old qualifications (a "direct entry qualification but is older than 5 years old):

You will need to complete some CPD or show you have done so within the last 12 months.

 

Non-direct Entry Qualifications (find your qualification and see which units you are likely to have to take)

- A BSc degree in Exercise Science (with a REPs provisional Level 3 PT status via the REPs HE Form) - send your REPs Higher Education form to us please.

- A BSc degree in Exercise Science (without REPs provisional Level 3 PT status via the REPs HE Form) - contact us 

- ACSM Certified Personal Trainer - You will need to take the Level 3 PT Practical Assessment either by LEVEL 3 PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT ONLY or by PURCHASING ASSISTED ALEARNING AND THE LEVEL 3 PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT

- ACE Personal Trainer You will need to take the Level 3 PT Practical Assessment either by LEVEL 3 PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT ONLY or by PURCHASING ASSISTED LEARNING AND THE LEVEL 3 PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT

How do I know if I will need to purchase "assisted learning" as well as the assessments?

When you know which units you require, then we need to assess whether your background warrants you eligible to take the "assessments-only”  without undertaking "assisted learning”. The benefit of taking the qualification by “assessment-only route” is that the cost is less. To be eligable to opt out of the "assisted learning"  you need to have the following amount of employment as a gym instructor and personal trainer: 

 - Gym Instructor Work Experience**

Please provide evidence that you have the right employed gym instructor work experience. That:
i) your role as a gym instructor consisted of specific level 2 gym instructor duties*  (includes all the knowledge and skills within units 5 and 6 of the qualification)
ii) your line manager who was supervising you at the time was level 3 personal trainer qualified (please send their certificate)
iii) you have more than 600 hours of practical gym instructor role experience 
iv) the facility that you were working in was a health/fitness club gym and not a gym where the focus was primarily on weight training/strength and conditioning or purely clinical populations environment.
v) the facility that you were working in contained at least the following pieces of equipment: –stationary bike, concept 2 rower (or similar), cross trainer/elliptical trainer, treadmill, fixed chest press machine, fixed seated row machine, fixed lat pulldown machine, seated leg press machine, seated leg extension machine, seated leg curl machine, light to moderate dumbbells, light to moderate barbells and free weight bench

vi) the programs that you were working clients with contained flexibility training using static stretches for all major muscle groups

- Personal Trainer Work Experience**
Please provide evidence that you have the right employed personal trainer work experience. That:
- your role as a personal trainer consisted of specific level 3 personal trainer duties*  (includes all the knowledge and skills within units 9 and 10 of the qualification)
- your line manager who was supervising you at the time was level 3 personal trainer qualified (please send their certificate)
- you have more than 600 hours of practical personal trainer role experience 
- the facility that you were working in was a health/fitness club gym and not a gym where the focus was primarily on weight training/strength and conditioning or purely clinical populations environment.
- the facility that you were working in contained at least the following pieces of equipment: –stationary bike, concept 2 rower (or similar), cross trainer/elliptical trainer, treadmill, fixed chest press machine, fixed seated row machine, fixed lat pulldown machine, seated leg press machine, seated leg extension machine, seated leg curl machine, light to moderate dumbbells, light to moderate barbells and free weight bench

You also need an appropriate mentor who is willing to assist you and be responsible for the preparation for your  assessmentSs). An appriopriate mentor is person who is Level 3 PT qualified and who is employed by a fitness company and is willing to be responsible for your prearation for the tests.

i) to see the mentor’s REPs recognised level 3 personal trainer certificate showing that they are currently qualified and are also on the REPs register as such

ii) a reference from them indicating that they will be supporting you fully in preparing for the required unit(s).
